An exciting day with Bob Benson learning how to make your own “flashies”: dynamic, sparkling decorations made from mirrors, marbles and such. Each participant will receive instructions on cutting and assembling glass and mirrors. Everyone will walk away with a finished product to keep and dangle.

Sugarfoots Story-Theatre workshop is an engaging one-hour program which teaches participants the art of telling a good story. Program consists of projection exercises, group movement to a rhythmic reggae beat, story demonstration, writing stories, and performing! Girls will be encouraged to find their own voices within their stories. This is aimed for developing a strong sense of self for girls to confidently address any audience.

Gemma di Lernia Designs
Make Your Own Jewelry

Program consists of a presentation of between 45-60 minutes on the history of jewelry and the jewelry industry. Participants will then make a necklace by selecting a natural gemstone from a selection of 20 different gems. The setting of the necklace and the chain are Sterling Silver. Customized programs can be arranged upon request for a fee.

Art Badge Workshops

Have fun learning new skills while making beautiful projects to take home. Classes meet in our spacious studios and are led by our talented art faculty. For Brownies our 2-hour complete-badge workshops includes: Art-to-wear, Colors and Shapes, Puppets, dolls and plays, and Sew Simple. For Juniors we cover the Jeweler, Visual Arts, Prints and Graphics, Drawing and Painting, and Sew Simple requirements.
Fee: $10/girls; minimum 12 required. Adults free. Fee inlcudes all materials, healthy snack, and Participation Patch.
Brownie Dance Badge
Program Level: B
Workshops are held in our beautiful dance studio and led by our award-winning faculty. 75-minute complete-badge workshops. Choose either Creative tive Movement where girls will learn jazz and ballet techniques, play a dance game, and read and choreograph a classic dance story. Or chose Movie Musical where girls will learn jazz and ballet steps, watch clips of move musicals, and choose one piece to learn and perform.
Free: $8/girl (12 girl minimum). Adult chaperones free. Includes participation patch for each girl. Smaller troops may be combined.
Broadway Basics
Program Level: J
During the 75 minute class, girls will learn tap, swing, and square dancing, culminating in a Broadway Dance performance for parents/leaders.

Workshops are held in our beautiful dance studio and led by our award-winning faculty. During this 60 minute workshop, girls will explore dance styles and musical traditions from each continent.

Dance of the Decades
Program Level: J
Learn dance moves from the 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s! Then teach these moves to family and friends at a special dance party. This is a two hour program.

Ceramics
Program Level: J, C, S
Ceramics workshops meet in our spacious studios and are led by our talented ceramics faculty. Two 2-hour visits include: clay care, studio and kiln tour, interviews with potters, and lessons in hand-building, tile, and pottery-wheel techniques. Each girl may choose to fire and glaze 3 projects.

Polymer Clay Creations
Program Level: C, S
Learn techniques for making beautiful beads and sculptures with this brilliant-colored crafting medium. The results are stunning! Taught by a professional sculptor in our spacious art studios. Partially fulfills jewelry, artistic crafts, or visual arts IP’s. 2-hour workshop.

Careers in Dance Workshop
Program Level: C, S
Learn about the life of a dancer- from training, to performance, to administration. Interview a professional dancer, study video clips and resumes, and complete a special project. Fulfills career component of Invitation to the Dance IP.

In Faberge's Workshop
Program Level: J
Girl Scouts will explore the Museum's collection of sumptuous jewelry and fanciful gifts, including those created by imperial Russia's most famous jeweler, Peter Carl Faberge. Afterwards, Girl Scouts will make their own Faberge-style creations.

Garden Journeys: Discovering the Japanese-style Garden
Program Level: J
Discover the beauty, tranquility and whimsy of Hillwood's Japanese-style Garden! Girl Scouts will explore the garden, listen to traditional Japanese haiku and write their own poetry. Afterwards, Girl Scouts will create a miniature Japanese-style garden to take home.

The Mud Hut
Contemporary Ceramic Studio

This is an introduction to the medium of ceramics. We educate troops on the process of getting raw clay to bisque, show them the kiln room, talk about the process of firing and provide them with the fired raw clay piece (bisque) to color (decorate/paint) with glaze. During the adding of color to the bisque, we teach design techniques such as mask and peel, bubbles, banding, drawing, scratching and designing. We have Mud Staff to support color selection and to help through the design and technique process.

Origami Grace
Easy Origami for Kids and Teens

Origami is fun and easy to learn! Girl Scouts will fold 5-8 different shapes using origami paper and gift wrap. A take-home kit with instructions and practice paper is provided. Program tailored by age group; older scouts may select origami ornaments or jewelry. Applicable for Brownies Color & Shapes Try It or Junior Art in 3D Badge. Program length is 1 hour.

Easy Origami Notecards

Make beautiful, one of a kind origami notecards. Girl Scouts will fold origami pieces and create several blank notecards, using collage, rubber stamping and paper layering. Welcome to My Room!

Girls' individuality and personal style shine through when they make their own bedroom door "Welcome" signs! Large-sized plaques (in various shapes) are painted in bold colors and adorned with Add-On pieces (cute miniature ceramic sculptures). By using chalkboard paint, girls can turn their signs into message boards, too!
